General Brazell ran an orphanage for children. He would educate these children and even give them an allowance and encouraged them to find talents to display at the fire festival. The other Generals saw this as a sign that he had gone soft, but he was actually using these orphans as part of a plot to take over Ixia.
These orphans were stolen from families in Sitia with the potential for strong magic. Some were spared the experiments which were stopped by Yelena and her friends. There were over thirty children taken, with about two children kidnapped each year. As soon as the children reached maturity, Brazell and his son Reyad would test for magical ability. The child was then tortured until they surrendered their souls to Mogkan to use their magic to enhance his own. Yelena is the only one to survive the experiments and remain whole.
